I interviewed dogs and wrote a book sharing their stories. Here are 15 of the dogs featured in the book.

I’m Vicky Champagne, and I’m passionate about telling stories through my photography. I enjoy exploring where people come from, what they believe in, and what moves them emotionally. I also believe in the power of possibilities and feel like I’m living in a dream where the world is my playground.

“Who’s Your Doggy” is a coffee table book that highlights the personalities of various dogs. All proceeds from the book’s sales will be donated to the Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes and the Toronto Humane Society.

#1 Miss Daisy – The Shining Star

Rescued from severe neglect and near death, I was taken in by the Humane Society. At the time, I was emaciated and struggling with both physical and emotional trauma, leaving me to wonder why I deserved such suffering.

During my many visits to the hospital, I was given the name Miss Daisy, a nod to the film “Driving Miss Daisy.”

Judi, a compassionate staff member at the Humane Society, provided me with the love and care I desperately needed. Although it was hard for me to understand why she formed such a strong bond with me, her kindness began to make a difference.

Over time, hearing “you’re a good girl” helped rebuild my self-esteem. The love and care I received were crucial in overcoming my past mistreatment and restoring my sense of worth.

Today, I live with Judi and proudly serve as the mascot for the Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes. I greet visitors and offer comfort to other animals, helping them feel reassured. I finally have a purpose and a place where I belong.

In 2017, while on leave from work due to stress and exhaustion that had led to depression, I began taking up photography. This new hobby became my motivation to get out of bed and engage with the world each day. I decided to pursue a career in photography and set a goal to transition from my full-time job within two years. I achieved that goal and have been dedicated to photography ever since.

#2 Briars – The Handsome Adventurer

My name is Briars, and while I might not be an ordinary dog, that’s what my mom often tells her friends as they admire my curls, which I wear with a certain flair. I spent my early years perfecting the art of being charming, a task made easier by my handsome looks and hypoallergenic coat.

Unlike many dogs, I don’t trigger Dad’s allergies. I like to think I was specially chosen to be their dog. I’ve grown up on a diet of chicken, my favorite, which I believe helps maintain my luxurious curls. Being small means I get to accompany my family on all their adventures, including camping trips, which I absolutely love. Hiking during the day and curling up in a warm sleeping bag with Mom and Dad at night is my idea of bliss.

I’ve been lucky to share many adventures and heartwarming moments with my family. I truly feel like the luckiest dog, and I’m grateful for every bit of it.

#3 Diesel – The Sous-Chef

I really love food, and I’m lucky because my mom is a chef—specifically, a master at making dog treats! When I first came into her life three years ago, she wasn’t baking these treats yet. But having me around must have inspired her, and now her treats are truly amazing!

We make a great team in the kitchen: Mom does the baking, and I’m the official taste-tester. I get to sample everything and show my approval with a happy wag of my tail. She puts a lot of love into her treats, just like she does into our bond. I was a young pup when we became a family, and although I was nervous at first, I quickly bonded with her. We’re inseparable now—she takes me everywhere!

I’m friendly with people and take a bit more time to warm up to other dogs. Mom says I’ve helped her fully experience love, something she knew she had in her but didn’t fully realize until we met.

Waking up to her smile every morning feels wonderful. With her, every day is cozy and safe. I must be the luckiest pup in the world! And when Mom puts on her apron, I know something delicious is on the way, which gets my tail wagging!

I love sharing stories of the special bond between dogs and their humans. I was already creating a magazine with stories and images of my clients, so I decided to compile a book. All proceeds from this coffee table book will be donated to my local Humane Society.

#4 Moose – The Devoted Guardian

My name is Moose, and I’m a large, 200-pound Caucasian Shepherd, also known as a Russian Bear Dog. Despite my size and strength, I’m a gentle giant who loves nothing more than showering my family with affection through cuddles and gentle kisses.

When I was a puppy, I made a promise to always protect my family and keep them safe. I take my role as their guardian seriously, often keeping watch from my favorite spot on the front porch. I enjoy being outside in all seasons, but winter is especially fun for me. I blend in with the snow so well that my mom sometimes has trouble finding me in the field!

Though I can be a bit excitable when meeting new people, my mom helps me stay calm. I’m just a big, goofy dog who loves attention. I enjoy long walks, visiting the orchard to munch on fallen apples, and waiting for my human siblings to come home from school.

I also love getting brushed and having my nails trimmed. It’s not about looking good—it’s about enjoying the attention and getting belly rubs. I may look tough, but I thrive on being part of a loving family where I’m respected and cherished. And yes, I do love food—after all, look at my size! Most importantly, I have immense respect for my mom. She’s the most special person in my life, and I’d do anything to keep her safe and happy.

#5 Luna – The Track Star

I can run fast or go for long distances—marathons are no challenge for me.

Though I have a spirited side, it’s balanced by my disciplined nature. I’m not just strong; I’ve got a striking appearance to match. But don’t let that fool you; I’m also quite fierce. My family truly understands my complex personality.

As a Vizsla, I’m very close to my mom. We have a special bond where a single look can convey a whole conversation. With others, I’m polite but can be a bit reserved until we become friends. I love spending time with my human siblings and enjoy cuddling with them after a good run. At night, I like to snuggle under the covers and take over the bed (sorry, Mom), dreaming about the adventures to come.

For a book project featuring dogs, participants needed to apply and provide some details about their pets. From these applications, a selection was made.

We certainly had many heartwarming moments on set. One of the funniest was when a dog decided to mark his territory on the posing block during the shoot!

#6 Mia – The Conquerer

My journey began when I was rescued in Turks and Caicos after a motorcycle accident and a dog attack that resulted in the loss of one eye. It was a difficult experience, but I was thankful to still have my remaining eye. I was brought to Canada, where I went through rescue and adoption a few times. Unfortunately, one of the homes was not kind to me.

One day, while I was simply going about my day, I fell down the stairs and later realized that my owner had pushed me. Despite the pain and injuries from the fall, I felt a sense of pity for them—something must have been deeply troubling them to act in such a way. I was hurt, especially in my legs.

Fortunately, I was taken to the Humane Society, where my life began to change for the better. Sherrill and her daughter came to visit, and even though I was scared, their warm smiles and Sherrill’s kind eyes helped me feel at ease. I did my best to be friendly and approachable, and it worked. Sherrill decided to foster me.

Even so, I was still frightened by certain things like the sound of motorcycles and stairs. I wanted to join Sherrill and the cats upstairs but couldn’t summon the courage to climb the steps. With Sherrill’s love, care, and support, I began to heal emotionally and physically. She took me to swim therapy, where we developed a deep bond, often locking eyes during our sessions. She also arranged surgery for my hip, which greatly improved my quality of life.

After a second surgery, Sherrill decided to adopt me officially. It was an incredible day! Although I faced another surgery to remove a cancerous lump, I learned that maintaining a positive attitude is crucial.

If you focus on the love, hope, and goodness around you, life can become beautiful. Now, at 9 years old, I confidently sleep upstairs without fear. I’ve learned that with patience and choosing love over fear, you can overcome many challenges. Sherrill’s unwavering love has shown me that even in dark times, there is always hope and love to guide you.

#7 Timber – The Gatherer

My name is Timber, and I’m a dog with a unique mission: to bring a sense of unity and joy to everyone I meet. I believe that harmony makes life better, which is why I instinctively try to herd everyone—people, dogs, and even cars! I might not be like every dog you’ve met, but that’s what makes me special.

My parents think I’m very smart. I pay close attention when people talk, tilting my head and seeming to understand their words. I also have a talent for hiding my toys in surprising places when no one’s looking. When it’s time to go outside, I head straight to the door and wait patiently. My deep, light brown eyes often capture people’s attention, reflecting my strong personality.

I enjoy spending time on the trails, playing ball, and participating in agility training. I’m especially close to my mom, and I even sleep with her. She says I help reduce her stress, and I aim to bring peace and joy to our home. We love going on road trips together, and I enjoy car rides so much that I sometimes try to herd the cars that pass by.

I have a quirky habit of watching the water boil on the stove and the light patterns on the ceiling. The sound of the dishwasher also fascinates me. I strive to create a loving and harmonious environment at home.

My job of bringing everyone together is something I take seriously and enjoy. If you see a dog trying to herd everything in sight, that’s probably me, ensuring everyone feels connected.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to announce that I’m already planning for “Who’s Your Doggy Volume 2,” which I’ll be working on in 2025. Stay tuned for more updates!

#8 Bella – The Humble Star

For the past 15 years, I’ve been fortunate to appear on calendars and television—a dream for many. I was also blessed to share this experience with my sister, Brown Sugar, who recently passed away. I miss her dearly, but her memory remains with us, as it’s now just my mom and me. While I appreciate the recognition, what truly matters to me happens away from the spotlight.

The love of my mom, pure and unwavering, is what truly lights up my life. Her dedication to me, her “little Bella,” and her pride in being my constant support, mean more than any fame. I remember the moment she first saw me in Missouri, gently cradled me, and said, “She’s such a pretty girl.” From that moment on, enchanted by my Southern charm, she named me Bella, her little “Southern Belle.” Despite any fame, I walk through life with humility.

I find joy in simple pleasures like car rides to Starbucks for a pup cup, the cold cream on my nose, and playful times with friends. I cherish our easygoing days, cuddling with mom, and enjoying spa days—puppy massages are the best! These shared moments of happiness are what I treasure most.

People often equate success with fame, but I’ve found my true joy in the daily love and small moments with my family. Though I might be known as a calendar star, it’s in my mom’s loving gaze that I find the truest light. Each day with her is a precious gift.

My journey has brought me fame through calendars and TV appearances, but those accolades are secondary to the joy and love I experience in my everyday life with my mom. As Bella, known for my calendar appearances, I gratefully acknowledge this remarkable journey, a life defined by the warmth of home and an enduring love.

#9 Molly – The Sheriff

I’m Molly, and I’m a dog who thrives on order and routine. My journey started 13 years ago in a cornfield in Ohio, where I was a lost little dog without much structure. It was clear that I needed a more organized life, and I wasn’t shy about expressing my need for it, especially since I have a lot to say.

My life took a turn for the better when I met Maureen, my wonderful mom, who appreciates my quirks and allows me to be myself. Despite my smaller size, I’m quite protective. When playtime at home gets too rowdy, whether it’s with other dogs or people, I step in to restore order, often in a way that’s both cute and sometimes a little bossy.

When it comes to food—whether it’s mine, my mom’s, or anything within my reach—I’m very particular about boundaries. I make sure everyone knows what’s mine! But I’m not just about enforcing rules; I also take my job as a safety monitor seriously. In the car, I’m the first to jump onto the front armrest, keeping a watchful eye to ensure everyone is secure. Some might see me as a bit of a spoilsport, but I’m just committed to maintaining order.

When the “serious” duties are done, I let loose with my zoomies—running in circles and getting lots of laughs from everyone. I love that part of the day!

I’m fiercely loyal and dedicated to protecting Mom, the kind soul who rescued me. I’m also a big fan of cuddles. There’s nothing I enjoy more than snuggling behind Mom’s neck during nap times, staying close and cozy. In the evenings, while Mom is relaxing with some TV, I take the opportunity to recount the day’s events, ensuring the rules were followed and order was maintained.

Being Molly means living a life full of love, loyalty, and a bit of rule enforcement. And honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

#10 Murphy – The Escape Artist

I’m Murph, and yes, I have a bit of a reputation for escaping. Despite Mom’s best efforts to secure the fence, I often find a way out. But I don’t stray far; sometimes I just end up lounging in the front yard.

My life before Mom was tough. I lived in Turkey, where I often faced hunger, dirt, and loneliness. I thought that was all life had to offer. But then Mom came into the picture and completely transformed my world.

She rescued me and gave me a new life full of love and care. Now, when I manage to escape, it’s not out of a desire to run away. It’s more of a way for me to remind Mom of how much she means to me and to experience her love and care all over again. I’m deeply grateful for the life she’s given me.

#11 Easton – The Storyteller

I’m Easton, and while I may not be a famous author, I do have some exciting tales to share! I’m a rescue dog from Pennsylvania, and my adventures have been turned into five books, all inspired by my real-life escapades.

I was just a 2-month-old pup when I found my new family, and even now at 8 years old and 90 lbs, I still love cuddling with my mom, Liz, and dad, Brent. My stories include memorable moments like sneaking off to the deli or making a daring escape down a ski hill.

Life with my family is full of love and fun. I enjoy their affection and listening to my sibling Keira play the guitar, which feels like my own personal concert. We go on exciting outings together—boat rides, hikes, and beach days—that provide endless inspiration for my stories.

Spreading joy through my tales is something my mom and I cherish. If you’re interested in a heartwarming story from a dog’s perspective, just look up Easton the dog. My books are available online and ready for you to enjoy, just like my favorite treats!

#12 Blue – The Sweetie Pie

I’m Blueberry, but my friends call me Blue. I might look a bit intimidating at first glance, but I’m really just a gentle giant with a big heart. I found my forever home with Christina and Jason about five years ago, when I was around three years old. Before that, I was at a gas station where I worked with my previous owner.

My old owner didn’t want me anymore, so one night, Christina’s friend took me in and brought me to my new home. It took some time to adjust, but with patience and care, I quickly felt like I belonged. When Christina’s son, River, was born shortly after, my heart grew even bigger!

At first, the neighborhood kids were wary of me, but now they’re my friends. They stop by on their way to school to say hello and give me pets. I love seeing them, and when Christina excitedly asks, “Who’s here?” I know it’s someone special coming to give me cuddles.

Christina is my favorite person. We have a special bond, and I can sense when she’s feeling stressed or upset. I try to comfort her whenever I can. I’m quite sensitive and can get anxious with stress or tension in the house, sometimes even affecting my appetite or causing an upset stomach.

I enjoy our daily routines—morning snuggles, walks, playtime, and dinner at five o’clock. In the evenings, I bring toys to River so we can play together. We’ve recently welcomed a new baby sister, Riley, into the family. With Christina, Jason, River, Riley, and me, our family feels complete. My family takes wonderful care of me, and I’ll always be there to protect them. Even though I’m big, my heart is even bigger, and I’m grateful to have found my perfect forever home.

#13 Alfredo – The Stylist

I’m Alfredo, but everyone calls me Fredo. While I might come from a show dog lineage, I’ve never actually competed in any dog shows. Still, I’ve got a certain elegance in my step and a bit of flair that’s all my own. I do enjoy getting groomed and looking sharp—it’s all part of my personality. I’m not one for disheveled fur!

I thrive in social settings and love being around people, offering companionship and a friendly ear. But after a while, I need some quiet time to recharge. I do have a taste for the finer things in life, whether it’s delicious treats, premium cheese, or stylish sweaters.

Despite my diva tendencies, I have a heart full of loyalty. My best friend, Neera, is my constant companion, and I’m always by her side—or rather, under her feet. Car rides are a highlight for me; every trip feels like an adventure. I’d love to be more involved if I had thumbs, but for now, I enjoy our outings and meeting new friends from the passenger seat.

Neera and I have a special bond. I can sense when she’s feeling down and try to comfort her with a nudge. When I’m happy, she shares in my joy. While I may charm those around me, Neera is the one who means the most to me. She understands all my quirks and, to me, is as essential as a beloved piece in a wardrobe. Together, we make a great team, and I love her deeply.

#14 George – The Secret Keeper

I’m a lucky dog, and it’s all thanks to my best friend, Craig! He rescued me when I was just a tiny puppy with my siblings, found in a parking lot. From that very first moment, we clicked, and I knew he was the one for me. Craig gave me a loving home on a beautiful property where I enjoy comfy naps, tasty treats, and lots of adventures.

Craig and I are inseparable. If he’s taking a lazy morning, I’m right there with him, curled up beside him. And when he’s up for exploring the outdoors, I’m eager to join him, especially if there are snacks involved! My heart is full of love, and Craig gets all of it.

When someone is special to me, like Craig, I greet them with my happy squeaky noise. What I cherish most is the trust Craig has in me. At just five years old, I might be young, but I’m a good listener. Craig shares his thoughts with me, and I keep all his secrets safe. I’m always here to listen, no matter what.

My doggy door is always open for Craig. Whether it’s sunny or raining, I’ll be by his side. He’s my best friend and my favorite human. I understand him, and I love him deeply. Here’s to many more cozy naps, fun adventures, and a lifelong friendship. Love you to the moon and back, Craig!

#15 Hank – The Wrecking Ball

Hi there, I’m Hank! I may be a spirited 5-year-old, but don’t let that fool you—I’ve got a heart full of love.

I do enjoy getting pampered by my mom, but I also have a knack for turning any space into a whirlwind of fun. Give me a Christmas tree, a toy, or a living room to explore, and I’ll be in my element. I guess you could say I have a talent for making a mess!

But don’t worry, I’m all about cuddles too. If you let me, I’ll happily sit right next to you (or on top of you) for some quality snuggle time. Just be prepared for a bit of excitement—that’s just part of my charm!

And if you spot me, check out my special “H” necklace. I might be a bit of a mess-maker, but I like to think of myself as a bit of a star in my own way. Cute, tough, and full of personality—watch out world, Hank is here!
