It’s believed the dog’s owner was riding up the slope in the ski lift behind the confused pup with two other dogs, on leads, as the pooch leapt off and plummeted to its fate
A confused and desperate dog was filmed considering their choices, before leaping from a moving ski lift.
Onlookers watched from the descending chairlift as the dog rode the lift up a slope alone and crying at the Polana Szymoszkowa Ski Resort in Zakapane, Poland.
In the unnerving and sad video, the dog, thought to be a tatra shepherd pup, looks over the edge of the lift as if considering its existential fate, before deciding to take the plunge.
It leaps off and hits the ground off camera, however the unfortunate dog’s yelps echo through the countryside, apparently suffering serious injuries and in considerable pain.
The dog was spotted riding the ski lift alone
A man with two dogs on leads sit not the following ascending ski lift, believed to be the injured dog’s owners.
They said the poor pooch was alone in the first gondola while its owner was travelling with two other dogs in the next one.
They claim the dog was placed in the lift with no safety measures, adding: “He was alone, he must have been young, a tatra shepherd dog.
As it rode up the mountain, it weighed up jumping
“At our height, when we passed each other, he jumped out.”
After it leaped to the ground below, the witness said: “All we heard was yelping and howling.
“I don’t know if he survived.”
The resort’s rules state that all dogs should be kept on a lead, wear a muzzle, and be accompanied by an adult at all times.
The animal decided to take the leap
In addition, animals are not allowed on the resort’s chairlifts and ski slopes under any conditions.
The incident was reported to the police who have confirmed they are investigating.
It’s currently unclear what happened to the dog after jumping from the lift.
