Sherio the dog has faced many challenges in his life, but he hasn’t let those hardships turn him into a bitter or mean dog. Despite his difficult past, Sherio has become a source of comfort and support for other foster animals. Now living in a loving and supportive home, Sherio understands how stressful it can be for animals to adjust to new surroundings. His story of resilience and kindness truly warmed our hearts as we learned about him.
Sherio faced significant challenges in finding a permanent home due to his deafness and partial blindness. He spent time in two shelters, lived with 12 different foster families, and was adopted four times, only to be returned each time. Despite these difficulties, Sherio eventually found a caring and permanent home.
Sherio eventually found a permanent home with Sheryl Smith, who had a strong background in caring for abandoned animals. Recognizing Sherio’s special needs and his challenging past, she welcomed him with open arms. After settling into his new home, Sherio began to use his own experiences to offer comfort and support to other animals with similar backgrounds.
Sherio finally found a loving home with Sheryl Smith, who had extensive experience caring for abandoned animals. Recognizing Sherio’s unique needs and his difficult past, Smith was committed to providing him with the care he deserved. Once settled, Sherio adapted to his new environment and began offering comfort and companionship to other animals in need, drawing from his own experiences to help them adjust and feel safe.
In an interview, Smith shared, “Shortly after Sherio was rescued, I took in a pregnant dog who was too ill to care for her puppies. Sherio instinctively climbed in with them and began cleaning them. Since then, he has done this with every new rescue. He patiently sits with feral cats and kittens, forming a bond with them so strong that they often trust him before they trust me.”
Smith also mentioned, “Even though Sherio is now in a good place, I still feel anxious when I think about his past.”
Sherio’s deep care for the animals he helps foster is understandable, given his own challenging experiences. Despite now being securely in a permanent home, Sherio continues to struggle with separation anxiety due to his past. Smith explains, “He still cries in the car because he fears he might be abandoned again.”
Despite his difficult past, Sherio has shown remarkable resilience and strength.
In 2020, Smith adopted a feral kitten named Tiny Tolley, who required extensive care. Sherio, with his nurturing nature, stayed close to Tiny Tolley, providing comfort and companionship as she recovered and grew stronger. His past experiences have clearly influenced his gentle behavior, allowing him to support and care for other animals in need.
